ALAMEDA COUNTY HEALTH CARE
Healthy Spaces and Places
Strategy 2: Build safe, healthy, culturally responsive school and youth spaces.
The environments we live in shape our relationships, patterns of movement, emotional well-being, and physical health. School and neighborhood environments where young people feel safe, connected, and supported are critical to their health, wellness, and academic success. We support the development of programs and policies that create healthy spaces and places where children can play, learn, and grow. We partner with schools and districts to build comprehensive school climate initiatives and train school staff to support students’ social-emotional development through strategies such as mental health consultation and coaching. We also collaborate with public and private partners to develop facilities and infrastructure that support wellness, such as youth centers, safe routes to school, and places to access healthy foods.
